Hi Brendan – no it’s not really necessary if everything is going to plan. The script is there as a backup. Sometimes there’s nothing on the screen, or the operator is catching up with a change of running order, so the words are whizzing round – then the script comes in handy. Also, for interviews generally you are working from notes on the script, so you would refer to them, as the Autocue won’t be in the right place anyway.

Is it necessary to look down periodically (to indicate the presence of paper) when presenting information pieces via TV, considering that almost everyone knows that the teleprompter is being used?
